Reporting to the General Accounting & Reporting Manager, the Head of General Accounting is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations in Mauritius, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective management of accounts payable and receivable, and timely monthly closings. This role plays a key part in maintaining financial integrity, compliance with local regulations, and supporting business decision-making through reliable financial data.

 

Main Duties:

•    Lead and manage the accounting functions for Mauritius, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and General Ledger.

•    Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings.

•    Supervise tax return and VAT reconciliations

•    Prepare financial statements and internal management reports.
•    Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement and propose corrective actions on profitability/productivity, meeting the needs of the country operational managers and support them in designing the strategy required. 

•    Participate in the preparation of Mauritius budget.

•    Support internal and external audits

•    Ensure the adjustments of US GAAP entries and carry out the usual verifications to prepare the US GAP balance sheet, Fixed assets, cash and treasury reconciliations, trend analysis and comments on balance sheet lines. 

•   Maintain compliance with local accounting standards, tax regulations, SOX and other internal financial policies.

Key Competencies: 
•    ACCA Qualified
•    Minimum 5 years of experience in financial accounting in a local company 
•    At least 2 years in a managerial role
•    Well versed with IFRS and other accounting standards
•    Proficiency in SAGE Pastel will be an advantage
•    Knowledge of US GAAP and SOX policies is desirable
•    Excellent analytical and organizational skills
•    Fluent in English and French with strong communication skills in both written and spoken forms
•    Adaptability and flexibility to the work – ability to adjust on other time zones which may be required since we are part of an international group
